MindPump Fitness

Product redesign and branding

Challenge

Rebrand and redesign MindPump Fitness, an online podcast product dedicated to providing truthful fitness and health information. The new design aims to provide users with a better experience, build a more intuitive product structure, and develop a coherent visual language.

What I found:

  1. Unclear behavioral expectations.

  2. Changing UI patterns.

  3. Unclear visual identity.

  4. Cluttered visual design.

User Interviews

My goal for conducting user interviews was to focus on discovery. I wanted to understand what areas of the site are users getting stuck at. Do users have trouble finding popular or essential features of the product? How do newser needs differ from returning users? Would an app benefit the company? Can the average user easily pick up and use the product? What does their fitness journey look like?

Interview questions:

  1. Where are you on your fitness journey? What is your overall fitness goal?

  2. What is your experience with fitness products such as fitness apps, personal trainers, etc?

  3. Where do you get your fitness info from?

  4. Please navigate to https://www.mindpumpmedia.com/ and try to locate information on nutrition.

  5. Please navigate to https://www.mindpumpmedia.com/ and find the community forum.

  6. log in with XXXXX@gmail.com, use password: XXXXXXX, and take 3min to explore the program “MAPS Anabolic”. Then in your own words, please describe how you would proceed if you wanted to follow the program.

  7. Please return to the “library”.

  8. Please spend another 3min to explore the “No BS 6-Pack Formula”. Then in your own words, please describe how you would proceed if you wanted to follow the program.

  9. Is there any additional feedback you would like to provide?

Understanding MindPump’s unique features

There are many different products and resources available on the site, so in order to figure out a better way to design for the user, I performed an audit, produced a prioritization matrix, then compared my findings with other competitors in similar fitness fields.

Findings and Trends

100%

of users were able to find nutritional information

100%

of users commented on the inconsistent structure between different fitness products.

80%

of users could not find the community forum.

25%

of users had difficulty finding the “library” after they explore a program.

User Groups

After researching the audience, I narrowed them down into three user groups. Each of these users will have different needs, with some utilizing the free resources and some utilizing the forum or programs.

Stay tuned…

I packed up all of the information I learned from my research, and I’m currently editing and testing an information architecture for the site.

My next steps are:

  • Test new site structure through paper prototyping

  • Research the ROI and necessity of a mobile app for paying members.

  • Hi-fidelity prototype of new screens using a standardized design system.
